The teacher of the Hallon group is Frida. The class starts with
everybody talking about what has happened since last
week; it is important for everybody to talk and develop their Swedish.
After that we go over attendance, today´s weather, the days of the week
and today´s date. "Theme of the day" this semester is Animals. There is
alot to learn about horses, cows, snakes etc.
After that the
Smultron, Hallon and Blåbär groups gather for singing and games. Frida
is the singing leader and Malin takes care of the games. Back to the
classroom and sometimes we do crafts that Catharina has come up with. We
also go over today´s homework. The children work at home with the Bravo
workbook where the alphabet is presented according to how common
the letter is in the Swedish language.

At the end of class, one
parent reads a book that was brought in by a student. It is a very well
liked finish of the day. Before they go home, they may borrow books from
the school´s library, which is full of Swedish books for kids and young
adults.
And THIS is Frida:

She
is from Sandared outside of Borås and she moved to USA in February 2003
with husband Thord and children Erik, 12 years old, and Alice, 10 years
old. Both Erik and Alice is in the Vikingar group. Before the move to America, Frida
worked at a mail order company known as Linus & Lotta Postorder. In her
free time she enjoys handwork, oil painting and playing the oboe. Frida
thinks it’s fun to teach, play, and sing with the kids. ”The kids are
not the only ones that learn, I learn from them too.”
