Swedish School of Boston

Jordgubbarna

The Jordgubbarna group is made up of our youngest students. Many of the kids have older siblings that are in the other groups in the school. The kids play, sing, talk, and fool around. In the beginning of the lesson the kids, with Annelie's help, count how many are present. Then they get a chance to talk about something they’ve done in the past week. We work according to the same Silorema themes as Hallonen and Blåbären. We talk about the theme picture and review new words, do activities and sing songs about the theme. Sometimes the books we read also have to do with the theme.

We sing a lot in the Jordgubbarna group. The kids pick songs by picking balloons off a board. On the back side of the balloon is a song. During the fall we’ve sung several songs, including Bä bä vita lamm, Imse Vimse Spindel, I ett hus vid skogens slut, Blinka Lilla Stjärna etc. We sing, play, and do arts & crafts along with the smultron group.

The point of the Jordgubbarna group is to, through games and songs, develop the kids’ vocabulary and give them a chance to talk in Swedish to children their age.

Annelie
Annelie has had her son Alexander in Swedish School since the fall of 2007. "I recommend all Swedish talking families to join; it has been very good for our son's Swedish, and also very fun to get to know other Swedish-speaking families."
Annelie has lived in America since 1988, when she was an exchange student in Wisconsin. She went home and studied in Lund for one year and then she went back to Boston to take her BSBA and MBA. Annelie has 3 children, Alexander (Blabar), Olivia (Smultron) and Sophia (born oct'08). She grew up in Hässleholm, Skåne - but now when she goes home it is to the Kalmar and Öland area. Annelie has worked for Forrester Research as a project leader for 10 years, but now have maternity leave. "To be part of the Swedish School Board is exciting and fun".
