In the Nytänkar group there
are eleven students this year. We work with both talking and writing in
Swedish. We focus on extending our vocabulary, write shorter texts and dvelop our reading skills. Sometimes Marie reads out loud to us, and
sometimes we have to read by ourselves. We also learn about Swedish
Geography, animals and nature. we play games and do arts and crafts to
make it more fun and interesting to learn Swedish. The students always
get a small homework to finish at home with the help from a parent or
someone else in the home that speaks Swedish.

And this is Marie:

Marie is the teacher in the
Nytänkar group at Swedish School. She has been their teacher since the
spring of 2007 and she enjoys it very much, "it helps me to keep in
touch with Sweden and the Swedish language." Marie grew up outside of
Stockholm, and lived in Uppsala during her student years. She studied
behavioral science with specialising in educational planning. AFter her
studies Marie worked for many years in the insurance field. Since 1997
Marie lives in Massachusetts with her husband Thomas and their two boys
Christoffer and Sebastian (students at the Swedish School of course!)
Besides teaching in the Swedish School Marie works as a masseur since a
few years back.
